This is probably the most famous cake in southern Germany and known well beyond its borders! Black Forest Cake, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte!
It is light, yet indulgently creamy. It is chocolatey, but not in a way that non-chocolate cake people (like myself!) wouldn't like. And it has a lovely freshness due to the cherry filling. All in all, this is a cake you really don't want to miss out on!
For those who do consume alcohol, the layers are soaked with a generous amount of cherry liqueur. A non-alcoholic version is available, too, so children can enjoy the cake, as well.
Additionally, there is a gluten-free option, too!
